In association with ABC Dance School, Andrea Moneta, Dorothy Hardy, Theodore Hughes-Riley, and Nottingham Trent University
This Brazilian inspired Carnival Costume came as a collaboration with the electronic textiles department at Nottingham Trent University and the ABC Dance School for a performance at the East Midlands Caribbean Carnival Arts Network (EMCCAN) Carnival Clash.
The costume came runner up in the King competition and performed at Nottingham Playhouse, after which it paraded through Leeds and Nottingham Carnivals in 2017.
The design took direct inspiration from the messenger between the gods and earth, Esu Odara, whose colours were black and red, and whose element was fire. This was reflected in the flames that grew out from the performers’ armoured body.
The leotard contained LED stretch yarn on the legs as an experiment and test to check the usability of e-yarn in costuming.
