Are you alive? Is this Life? Is Society dead? Are you ready to come back? These are all questions Birmingham Opera Company asked while working with people from all over Birmingham during the build-up to their newly commissioned opera ‘Wake’. The world premiere was held at the B12 Warehouse, Digbeth in Birmingham.

Italy’s greatest living composer, Giorgio Battistelli, combines forces with award-winning writer/activist Sarah Woods, hundreds of performers with a diverse cast and international opera singers to harness the power of music and dare to raise the dead.

As the assistant designer, my role was to measure up the warehouse space to create technical drawings or this site specific design. This enabled me to build the modelbox at 1:50 scale for myself and the designer to populate and discuss where to place set pieces.

I designed and created graphics on photoshop for the modelbox, which led to the scaling up, measuring and ordering of the final large scale banners as well as assisting with costume fittings, set painting, and installation.
